Stavros Chalkidiki (Upper Cross and Cross Beach) is a coastal town in the east of Thessaloniki and is the base of the Municipality Volvi. It is 75Km from Thessaloniki and just 20km from ancient Stagira and 20 km from the historic Amphipolis.
In 1193 all three beaches of Stavros, the west, the center’s (Platania) and eastern (Melians) were awarded with the Blue Flag of the European Union, an award that is repeated every year since then. The beaches of Stavros enchant with its natural beauty and leave no visitor unmoved.
The most famous cultural activities is the carnival organized annually at «Tyrini» Sunday, the Sardine Festival with various music-dance performances on July 26 and the Feast of A- John on August 29, in which memory is the installation of the Asia Minor refugees in the village. During the summer are organized theatrical and musical performances by touring troupe.
Worth visiting Platanodasos, a huge space on the sea front 60 acres with old growth trees. There you’ll find sports facilities, playground and organized places for picnics, bars and taverns of the area, renowned for its good food.
